Understanding Tennis Elbow and Its Causes

The problem with tennis elbow is that it doesn’t give you much of a warning that it’s about to occur during the performance of your job duties or while you’re playing your favorite sport. Most of the time, what causes elbow joint pain is simply when the joint or tendon has been overused or strained doing the same repetitive motion.

When you do start to notice problems, you’ll probably start to feel pain that gets worse right around your elbow joint. In the times when you’re trying to hold onto or squeeze an item in your hands, you’ll see this can make the pain worse as well. It’s not a stretch to say that anytime you put upward or downward pressure on the joint by lifting that it’s going to rebel as well.

The activities of an individual, not necessarily their age, determines whether they can or will suffer from an injury like this. The name “tennis elbow treatment” should not mislead you either, as it can affect anyone from a construction worker to a housecleaner.

When you visit your physician for golf elbow pain relief, they are going to ask questions regarding the intensity of the pain, the timing of it and how long you’ve been experiencing it. It would also be helpful if you have written down each time the pain occurred and what you were doing, so they would have a more complete view of what is going on. They won’t be able to see this pain on an x-ray or any other kind of test, but there should be some movement tests they can do with you. More commonly, this is going to be treated by a cortisone injection that will relieve much of the pain for a certain amount of time.

To help your body start to heal, the doctor will probably also prescribe some anti-inflammatory medication. Keep in mind you will need to restrict your typical behaviors for a while and not continue to do that same motion every day. Apply ice to the injury for about 20-30 minutes during the day if it starts to feel aggravated and this should help relieve the injury stress. It might also be helpful to wear a brace so your arm has more support during these motions, and you’re not stretching the tendon too far.

There is hope for recovery though, despite the shocking pain strikes you may be feeling at the moment. If you do end up having surgery, at least you’ll have the full range of capabilities back, despite the longer recovery period. If an individual might not have rested otherwise, this might be a blessing in disguise, as it will force them to rest and heal.
